The NSS, University of Kashmir in collaboration with Sakshi, a Delhi based NGO, on Thursday organised a webinar on The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 . Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ramya Nisal said that the Act was enacted to provide a robust legal framework for the protection of children from offences of sexual assault, sexual harassment and pornography, while safeguarding the interest of the child at every stage of development. She acquainted the nss volunteers with the issue of child abuse and its prevalence in our society.
In his message, Dr. Musavir Ahmed, Coordinator, NSS, University of Kashmir underscored the need and importance of creating awareness on such a sensitive issue.
Dr.Heena Basharat,program officer NSS, University of Kashmir and organizer of the webinar said that our society was in denial with regard to the issue of child sexual abuse. Though considered taboo, discussing it is essential as it was a hard reality of our society. It is imperative to train and sensitise nss volunteers so that they can contribute to the cause of child welfare.The program was co-organised by Dr Waqar, Dr Yasir and Dr Shazia, program officers at NSS. Around 100 NSS volunteers participated in the webinar.
