To mark the International Day of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the NSS, University of Kashmir organised a lecture on "Surge in Drug Addiction: A collective Concern" to mark International day of Drug Addiction and Illicit Trafficking. Dr Musavir Ahmed, Coordinator NSS, University of Kashmir in his statement said that the problem had assumed epidemic proportions and hence there was an urgent need to create awareness about this often stigmatised issue. All sections of society need to work in harmony against this menace and if left unattended it has the potential of consuming generations of youth.
Dr. Abdul Majid, Head of the Department, Psychiatry SKIMS Medical College, Bemina was the resource person for the event.Terming the situation in the valley unfortunate, Dr.Majid pointed to the fact that the treatment centres of the valley are illequipped to handle the rehabilitation of patients effectively. He also observed that the long term rehabilitation policy for the victims of drug addiction is conspicuous by its absence in the valley.He urged all the stakeholders to work in a coordinated manner to bring this menace to an end.Vote of thanks was presented by Dr Shazia, program officer NSS
