On the occasion of the International Women's Day , the office of the Program Coordinator, National !Service Scheme (NSS), University of Kashmir (KU) on Tuesday, organized an awareness camp among the "underprivileged sections of the population" in Pazalpora Shalimar area of Srinagar.
The camp was organized on the directions of Vice Chancellor, KU Prof Talat Ahmad to sensitize the local communities on vital social and health issues.
Dr Musavir Ahmed, Program Coordinator, NSS, University of Kashmir, underscored the need to spread awareness on issues pertaining to the health and hygiene, particularly amongst the vulnerable sections of the society.
Dr.Heena Basharat, organiser of the program revealed that
poor menstrual hygiene caused by lack of education on the issue, persisting taboos and stigma, limited access to hygienic menstrual products and poor sanitation infrastructure undermined the educational opportunities, health and status of women and girls in Kashmir.
With the aim to promote good menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) for all women and girls, Dr Azhar Ahad Wani Medical officer, University of Kashmir sensitized the gathering about practices to be adhered to by women in order to ensure their overall health and well being. She also addressed the concerns voiced by the participants. During the camp, free sanitary pads, masks and sanitizers were distributed among the women, said the office of the NSS in a statement.
